Our Geriatrics Program Cares for the Elderly
Riverton Memorial Hospital recognizes the elderly often have unique challenges as they try to maintain their health and independence. Therefore, they have added a service line dedicated to treating seniors.
The population of Wyoming citizens over the age of 65 is growing at a faster rate than the national average. Currently, slightly more than 12 percent of Wyoming residents are senior citizens, and more than 21 percent of the population will be over the age of 65 by 2025.
The main goals of our geriatrics service line are to help those older than 65 stay active and independent and to help those patients faced with chronic illness and their families maintain quality in their living.
When a senior experiences physical or mental illnesses or disabilities that lead to dependence on others, or when their chronic illnesses causes caregiver stress, a geriatrician's care is beneficial. Our board-certified medical staff hold special interests in health problems which affect memory, mobility and independence, the effects of medications and the relief of suffering, especially at end of life.
